Why Professional Embroidery Digitizing Matters
Your embroidery machine doesn't read artwork. It reads instructions: where each stitch goes, which direction it runs, how dense it is, when to trim and when to change color. A good file runs clean at full speed. A bad one costs you thread, blanks, machine time and sometimes a customer.
Our Embroidery Digitizing Services
One team for every placement and technique, with deeper guides for the jobs shops ask about most.
Logo Embroidery Digitizing
Company logos converted into stitch files that stay true to the brand at the size you need, from a sleeve hit to a full back.
Left Chest Logo Digitizing
Around 3.5 to 4 inches wide, so every detail matters. We simplify where thread can't hold fine detail and keep lettering readable.
Chest logo digitizingCap and Hat Embroidery Digitizing
Structured caps, dad hats, truckers and beanies all sew differently. Cap files are sequenced to keep designs straight across the front seam.
Cap digitizing3D Puff Embroidery Digitizing
Wider satin columns, higher density to cut the foam cleanly and capped ends so foam doesn't poke through.
3D puff digitizingJacket Back and Large Designs
Bigger stitch counts bring more risk of puckering. We plan underlay, fill direction and sequencing so large designs lie flat and run efficiently.
Patch Digitizing
Patch designs with merrowed or satin borders for patch makers and shops producing patches in-house.
Custom embroidery patchesAppliqué Digitizing
Placement lines, tack-down and cover stitches set so fabric pieces land and finish cleanly with fewer stitches.

What Artwork Can You Send?
JPG, PNG, PDF, AI, EPS or SVG. We can also work from photos and sketches. If your artwork is blurry or low resolution, we can redraw it first with our vector art service.
Photo-realistic images, soft gradients and very thin lines don't always translate to thread as they are. When that happens, we suggest a practical adjustment before we start, not after.
Embroidery File Formats We Deliver
Tell us your machine brand and we'll send the right format. Need one that isn't listed? Just ask.
Good to know: a DST file stores stitches, not thread colors. Keep your color sequence handy when you set up the job.

Digitizing for Different Garments and Materials
The same logo needs a different file on a performance polo than on a canvas jacket. That's why we always ask what you're sewing on.
Pique polos
Extra underlay so stitches sit on top of the textured knit
Performance and moisture-wicking fabric
Lower density and lighter fills to prevent puckering
T-shirts and jersey knit
Light stitch counts and stable underlay for stretchy fabric
Hoodies and fleece
Underlay that flattens the pile so detail doesn't sink
Structured caps
Center-out, bottom-up sequencing within cap frame height limits
Unstructured caps and dad hats
Lighter density for soft crowns
Canvas, duck and denim workwear
Higher density and stronger coverage on heavy fabric
Nylon and softshell jackets
Reduced stitch count to avoid perforating thin shells
Towels and terry
Underlay to hold down loops (a topping is usually recommended)
Beanies and knits
Light, open designs that stretch with the knit
Leather and faux leather
Fewer, well-spaced penetrations so the material doesn't tear

Around San Francisco and the Bay Area, corporate merch programs call for clean small logos on performance polos and soft jackets. In Sacramento and the Central Valley, uniform and workwear orders need files that hold up on heavy fabric and repeat runs.

Quality and Production Details We Get Right
The things that decide whether a file runs clean or keeps your operator at the machine.
Stitch types
Satin for borders, lettering and narrow shapes. Tatami fill for larger areas. Run and bean stitches for fine lines.
Stitch density
Too dense means breaks and puckering. Too light shows fabric. We set density by fabric and size.
Underlay
The foundation that stabilizes fabric and lifts top stitches. Often the difference between crisp and sunken lettering.
Pull compensation
Stitches pull fabric in. We compensate for the material so shapes sew at the size you expect.
Thread direction
Varied stitch angles add depth and reduce distortion.
Small lettering
Built for its actual size, with a heads-up when text is too small to sew cleanly.
Cap-specific digitizing
Center-out, bottom-up sequencing that respects cap frame height limits.
Clean trims and jumps
Smart stitch paths mean faster run times and less cleanup.
Testing and revisions
Send a photo of your sew-out and we'll edit free until it sews correctly.

Start With One Logo
The easiest way to judge a digitizer is to run their file on your own machine. Send one logo you know well, ideally one that's given you trouble, and compare the sew-out.

Get a Free Quote01What is embroidery digitizing?
Embroidery digitizing is the process of converting a logo or artwork into a stitch file that an embroidery machine can read. The file tells the machine the stitch type, direction, density, color order, trims and path for every part of the design.
02How much does embroidery digitizing cost?
At XcellentPlus, digitizing is priced by placement and starts at $12 for a left chest logo. A cap front is $15, 3D puff and appliqué are $20, and a jacket back is $35. Larger or more detailed designs have higher stitch counts. You get a quote before any work starts.
03How long does embroidery digitizing take?
Standard orders are delivered within 24 hours. Same-day rush is available on request.
04What embroidery file formats do you provide?
We provide DST, PES, EXP, JEF, VP3, HUS, XXX, DSB and other formats on request. Tell us your machine brand and we'll send the right one.
05What is the difference between DST and PES files?
DST is the standard format for Tajima and most commercial multi-head machines. PES is used by Brother and Baby Lock machines. DST files store stitch data but not thread colors, while PES files can store color information.
06Can you digitize a logo from a JPG or low-resolution image?
Yes. We can work from JPG, PNG, PDF, AI, EPS, SVG, photos and sketches. If the image is very blurry, we may recommend redrawing it as vector art first for the best result.
07Can I resize an embroidery file myself?
Small size changes of around 10 to 20 percent are usually fine. Bigger changes affect density, underlay and lettering, so the design should be adjusted or re-digitized for the new size. Ask us before resizing a design by a large amount.
08What is the difference between auto-digitizing and professional digitizing?
Auto-digitizing software converts artwork into stitches automatically, which often leads to poor pathing, too many trims, wrong densities and weak lettering. Professional digitizing plans each element for the fabric, size and machine, so the design sews cleanly in production.
09Do you digitize caps and 3D puff designs?
Yes. Cap files are sequenced specifically for cap frames, and 3D puff files are built with wider satin columns and capped ends for foam.
10What if my file doesn't sew correctly?
Send us a photo of the sew-out and a note on the problem. We'll edit the file for free until it sews correctly on your machine.
11Do I own the embroidery file?
Yes. Once the order is paid, the digitized file is yours to use for future orders.
12Do you work with embroidery shops in California and Texas?
Yes. We work with shops, decorators and brands in California, Texas and across the USA. Everything happens online: you send the artwork, we send back a production-ready file.
